Since its start, the Bethany Community has been centered around the Bethany Church. In 1868, the Bethany Church was formed and the auditorium building was dedicated to the community. By 1900, the Bethany Community had established its own Post Office and the Bethany School is noted in the 1915 Education Survey of Morgan County. The Bethany Church and the Bethany School still remain in the Bethany Community.
Over the years the Community has had some wonderful additions, such as the Bethany Volunteer Fire Department and the Steffen Thomas Museum of Art. The community also boasts several agriculturally viable industries such a beef cattle, dairies, hay harvesting, and several others.
