"The gypsies used to come through with the wagons. And at one time up there at Daddy’s, they came through. They must have had 50 or 60 wagons, all built just alike. They would come through and trade mules and horses with the farmers, you know. And they camped out over there where John Richard lived. It was kind of an oak grove over there, and they camped out over there. Mama used to tell us, don’t go nowhere around them. Said they pick up little children and take them off. We were scared to death of them."
