Flat Rock

Flat Rock is an African American community  that was historically centered around a church and the agricultural industry. The Flat Rock Church was organized in 1896 and was said to be located near a large “flat rock,” near Sandy Creek. In 1910, a new church building was constructed at its present location on Highway 83 and later the Flat Rock School was established. Over the years, the Flat Rock Community has played a role in agriculturally viable industries such as cotton, hay harvesting, and seasonal industry, such as orchards.
