Walton's Mill piers

A 2007 photo of the remains of Walton's Mill. Located on Little River, near Godfrey, the mill was operated by the Walton family. There is a story about a slave named York who was left in charge of the mill when property owner Peter Walton was at war. He saved the mill from being burned by Union soliders in 1864 by telling them the local slaves would starve without the mill to help provide food. Lightning struck the mill and it burned around 1949. Only the piers remain.
