Mallory

Mallory was located between Little Sandy Creek and Big Sandy Creek on Highway 83 North. Mallory was named for the Mallory family and once consisted of Mallory’s Chapel, Mallory School, a store, and the Mallory Post Office. The Mallory Post Office was said to have been located in the A.P. Hilsman House which is still located on Highway 83 North near the historic Mallory Chapel Cemetery. The Mallory community was also located in close proximity to two gins and Gibb's Mill. Around 1939, the Mallory Community began to fade and the Flat Rock Community began to flourish in this area. By 1968, the only remnants of the Mallory Community existing on maps were the Mallory Cemetery and Mallory Road.
