Pennington Post Office application, 1882
This application, dated January 1882, is for the establishment of a Post Office in the Pennington community. Notice at the bottom the note that says, "Name the office Gap Creek or Pennington or Varner or Ward or any name the P.O.D. (Post Office Department) may prefer is the request of the parties interested." The application was signed by James L. Pennington, the proposed Postmaster of the new post office.
